Rust dust is not a result of the iron in your well water

Have "rust dust" in your yard. More times than not, your yard is telling you that it needs more fertilizer. Any grass that remains wet for long periods of time can start showing signs of rust. Watering too often, cool rainy days, lingering dew, prolonged rain (or sprinklers) followed by overcast skies, are all perfect growing conditions for rust. It can take some time to eliminate "rust dust" but mowing your lawn a little higher and more frequently and bagging the clippings can speed up the process. A neglected rust infection will thin out and damage good turf. A proper fertilizing program will help prevent "rust dust".
